The entire length of the historic trade route over the Simplon Pass will be restored by next summer. Until now, the mountain track was only accessible to hikers on the Swiss side, from Brig to Gondo. Currently, the historic and scenically very attractive section between Gondo and Domodossola in Italy is being restored. The path through the Val Divedro upgrades a classic transit valley to a hiking valley. Thanks to the connection of the route to public transport, it is easy to reach. It is suitable for both day and multi-day hikes on both the Italian and Swiss sides of the Simplon. The entire region benefits from additional, touristic added value and jobs are created.
gutundgut was commissioned by BLS for the implementation of the Interreg project. gutundgut carried out a detailed survey and obtained assessments from experts, historians and authorities. The central task was to bring the various project partners together to enable cross-border cooperation. The concrete routing also had to be determined together with the project partners. It was necessary to weigh up historical routing, alpine dangers and economic interests.
